Feature Friday: Barren Fireworks

This week, Photo Friday takes a break. In its stead, we feature a poem, written by Ruby Samuels, about the shocking results of the election this past Tuesday.

Barren Fireworks
by Ruby Samuels

You are full

Filled with knotted, insoluble strands

In an empty Times Square

Something’s ticking
Getting louder

Don’t pay too much attention

Orange cones line black tar
On the freshly paved road and
Fading rainbows glimmer in puddles
of melted snow by the
clock tower
The one that drops
that ball

In with the new
Out with the old
In empty Times Square

Should we leave before the fireworks
