Name: Ray Rogers
Hometown: Washington, DC
Major: Comparative Literature, French & English

What are you involved in?
Barnard Bulletin, HEART, Centennial Scholars, Phi Beta Kappa

Guilty pleasure?
HEWITT (!) It’s actually not that bad, really. Unlimited bananas? Yes pleaseeee.

Favorite memory from Barnard?
Although it’s not directly related to Barnard, it did happen in NYC while I was at Barnard, so I’m pretty sure it counts: Meeting the Far East Movement in a small, random Chelsea room where I helped shoot their cover for Hyphen Magazine.

Or, dancing until my baby hairs are plastered to my face and/or my legs are about to fall off at multiple locations throughout the city throughout the past three years.

And, what I can only assume will be the/one of the best moment: graduating. Wait! Sike, printing my thesis was really gratifying. I guess I have a lot of “favorite” memories.

Biggest regret of college?
Not taking Photo I or joining the Clay Collective. What was I thinking? Slash not visiting all of the museums (but I’m working on it).

Biggest leap of faith during college?
Majoring in Comparative Literature and dropping my pre-dental plans with the hope of “exploring.” It worked. I learned that I love literature, and I love teeth. I’m still considering going to dental school in the future. But as for next year, I’ll be taking a much needed gap year to do some other things that I didn’t get to try while at Barnard (pottery, perhaps?) and to shadow dentists. I guess the biggest leap of faith was letting myself take nonlinear, asymmetrical paths to find and then achieve goals.

What will you miss? the city, the cafes, the professors, the subway, the immensity of it all

What won’t you miss? dorms & deadlines.

Favorite place on or off campus Riverside Park

In 5 words or less, what’s next? exploring life

Who will play you in the biopic of your life? I’d like to think it’d be someone like Emma Watson or Natalie Portman, but of course I am nothing like them, so you know how those things go.
